Announcements > OSU Orthopaedics Welcomes New Department Chair: Dr. Jason Calhoun

Jason Calhoun, MD, FACS, took over Jan. 1, 2009 as Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics. He will also hold the Frank J. Kloenne Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Since 2003, Dr. Calhoun has been the J. Vernon Luck Sr. Distinguished Professor and Chairman in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri Health Care. In his four years there, Dr. Calhoun grew the department from three to 23 faculty, quadrupled rev­enue and oversaw an increase in research publications and grant funding. Between 1986 and 2003, he rose from assistant professor to professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

He received his bachelor's degree from Union College in Schenectady, New York, his master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Louisville and his medical degree from the University of Louisville Medical School, and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Dr, Calhoun's clinical and research interests include ankle and foot surgery, bone and joint infections, biomechanics and musculoskeletal deformities. He is past chair of the national Orthopaedic Residency Review Committee, a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Council on Research & Scientific Affairs and an examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Calhoun is married to Karen Hall Calhoun, MD, a specialist in otolaryngic allergy, who will be joining our Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery faculty part-time. The Calhouns have three children.
